The Conference of Presidents of Supreme Courts of China and Central and Eastern European Countries took place from May 03 to May 08, 2016 in Suzhou (Province of Jangsu). The Slovak delegation was led by the Vice-President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, Ms. Jarmila Urbancová. Mr.Daniel Hudák, presiding judge of the Criminal Division´s panel and Mr.Peter Hulla, director of the Judicial Academy of the Slovak Republic, were other members of the delegation.
The theme of the conference was assessment of the alternatives for developing the judicial cooperation in accordance with the China´s declared interest in establishment of rule of law, exchange of experience in arbitration and information on countries´ legal systems. During the visit in Beijing the Vice-President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic has also met with Mr. Zhou Qiang, the president of the Supreme People’s Court of the People’s Republic of China. They discussed further extension of cooperation between both courts.
The Vice-President of the Supreme Court of the Slovak Republic, Ms. Jarmila Urbancová, addressed the conference on Applying Information Technology in Courts and during the discussion she presented the individual projects on modernization of the judiciary. The conference was concluded by the adoption of “the Suzhou Consensus” on May 05, 2016. The said document is aimed to create a new platform for judicial cooperation between China and central and eastern European countries in accordance with national foreign policies. After the conference the bilateral meeting of Mr. Yongwei HUANG, the president of the National Academy of People’s Republic of China and Mr. Peter Hulla, director of the Judicial Academy of the Slovak Republic, took place. After the meeting they have signed the Memorandum of Understanding between the said institutions, which represents a framework agreement on international cooperation in the area of judicial education.
